The Guide... Totally
Committed to Christ Commitment and responsibility, stewardship and accountability are words that we often shy away from in our postmodern culture. However, the heart of the gospel message demands a total surrender of ourselves to Christ and a devotion to him and his cause that is revolutionary to our natural way of thinking. By considering the stewardship of our mind, talents, time, faith, money and home, Brian Russell challenges the reader regarding the thoroughness of their commitment to their Saviour. He shows that the transformation of our entire beings — from the way we think to the way we handle our finances — is the desire of God as he works by his Holy Spirit in the heart of a Christian. The practical implications of total commitment to Christ on our daily life are also explored. From things like hospitality, tithing and worship, to the development of godly character shown in humility, generosity and faithfulness, these chapters are sure to challenge every believer, whether you are a new Christian or one who has been following Christ for many years. As the many angles of stewardship are opened up to us from Scripture, it becomes clear that stewardship is not a burden but something we can delight in and recognize in it the privilege and freedom that we have to serve such a generous and kind God. This title is the latest topical book in The Guide series. The aim of the series is to communicate the Christian faith in a straightforward and readable way. Each chapter is relatively short and concise, but also contains questions for further study or group discussion as well as suggestions for prayer. Brian Russell presents the concept of commitment to Christ in a pastoral and personally challenging way. He shows that an evaluation of the priority and depth of our commitment to Christ is a barometer of our spiritual health and devotion. Brian A. Russell was born in South Africa and came to a saving faith in Jesus Christ at the age of seventeen through the Sunday school of the Central Baptist Church of Johannesburg. He worked in the gold mining industry for six years, acquiring his Mine Overseer’s Certificate. Following the Lord’s call to full-time service, he earned his Bachelor's degree from the University of South Africa and his theological degree from the Baptist Theological College, Johannesburg. He entered the ministry in 1962 and has served in three churches in South Africa, one in Zimbabwe and two in Virginia, USA. Brian has conducted many evangelistic missions, Bible conferences, stewardship seminars and pastors’ retreats in all three countries, as well as in Grand Cayman Island. His first book, Baptism: sign and seal of the Covenant of Grace, was published in 2002. He and his wife, Muriel, have three grown children. -------------------------------------------------- While we greatly value books on systematic theology, none of them deal with daily practical living like this book does. — from the Foreword by Erroll Hulse |
